Dr. Thierry Pauyo

Dr. Thierry Pauyo is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine. He is internationally known for performing arthroscopic hip surgery in professional and high-level athletes.

In the public health system, Dr Pauyo is an assistant professor at McGill University and has appointment at the McGill University Health Center, the Shriners Hospital-Canada and the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pauyo is also a frequent invited speaker on hip arthroscopic surgeries and ACL surgeries at international and national sports medicine meetings and has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles.

Dr. Pauyo currently serves as the head orthopedic sports surgeon for the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League (NHL). Additionally, he provided treatment to, or been a member of the medical teams responsible for the care of, a diverse group of professional and Olympic athletes including those in the Premier League, Major League Soccer (MLS), National Football League (NFL), NCAA, U Sports, American Hockey League (AHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), and Gymnastic Canada. He has also provided care to world-class artists, including Cirque du Soleil performers and ballet dancers. Dr. Pauyo has served as a consultant to numerous professional organizations, including FIFA during the , and federal organizations such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), as well as amateur organizations.

2005

Graduated from Amherst College with a major in Neuroscience.
During his time at Amherst he played for the varsity ice hockey team and was selected on the New England Small College Athletic Conference all-academic team.

2010-2011

Graduated with honors from Harvard Medical school before joining the orthopedic residency program at McGill University in Montreal Canada.

Volunteered for 1 year in Cange, Haiti with the nonprofit organization Partners-in-Health to help augment surgical capacity in rural Haiti.
Awarded the Harvard Medical School Dean’s Community Service Award and the Massachusetts Medical Society Scholar Award for his is involved in improving the delivery of orthopedic care in Haiti.

2016-2017

Obtained a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Pittsburgh University.

Worked with the Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL) and the Penguins (NHL).

2017 – 2018

Obtained a second fellowship at Boston’s Children’s Hospital at Harvard University in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery. Dr Pauyo specialized in pediatric and adolescent sports medicine.

Awarded the Herodicus Travelling Fellowship Award from the American Orthopedic Society of Sport medicine

2020

Given the Neviaser Award for best science paper in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
