Often referred to as “athlete’s ankle,” this condition occurs when bone spurs or inflamed tissue at the front of the ankle joint cause pain during dorsiflexion (bending the foot upward). Common in soccer players, runners, and ballet dancers.
Pain at the back of the ankle during plantar flexion (pointing the foot) often caused by repetitive strain or an enlarged posterior talar process. Common in dancers and athletes who frequently point their toes.
A condition where an extra bone fragment behind the ankle/subtalar joint becomes pinched or irritated, resulting in deep posterior ankle pain. Arthroscopy can remove the os trigonum and relieve symptoms.
Involves damage to the cartilage and underlying bone of the talus, often due to trauma like ankle sprains or fractures. Arthroscopy allows debridement, microfracture, or cartilage restoration techniques to repair the lesion.
Chronic ankle instability, typically from repeated sprains, can be addressed via arthroscopic techniques to tighten or reconstruct damaged ligaments.
